Thor’s Day

My favorite day of the week, dedicated to the Norse god of thunder. I absolutely can’t wait to see the next movie in the current series. Chris Hemsworth does a pretty convincing title role, but I’m most excited about the return of one of Hollywood’s leading ladies, and my future ex-wife, Natalie Portman. She’s pretty much perfect. I only worry about what her Fran time would be . . .

Another young woman who does have a documented outrageously short Fran time is miss Julie Foucher, former second fittest woman on Earth. This week she made a great post on her blog which analyzes the current opportunities and barriers for woman, particularly in the world of CrossFit. But I totally forgot about the rest of the message when she wrote in the last paragraph, “This year, I’m vowing to set my sights on the top of the podium at the CrossFit Games.” Julie’s back. Merry Christmas to CrossFitters everywhere.

Ok, now for some quick WOD tips:

1) Ever wonder how Mike MU Magee got so good at muscle ups?

2) Tomorrow’s WOD offers a fair amount of ring dips. 55 to be exact. Wouldn’t it be great if you could kip them? Here’s how. Wouldn’t it be even better if you could butterfly kip them? Yep, you can do that too. Just go balls to the wall on this one, there’s not a lot of room for strategy.

3) KStar demos a great, simple stretch that will make the RDs a lot less taxing. We spend a lot of time at the gym improving our internal rotation (bully stretch, shoulder capsule stretch), which is super important. But we also need to test pure extension occasionally to avoid compensating with “douche bag shoulder”. If the bands are too complicated you can do this stretch without them.

Don’t forget, the End of Summer Throwdown starts Saturday. Get out there to cheer on team QCC Hard Bodies. Or MU Magee will find you.
